This is the area where Okavango Delta joins the Desert of Chobe National Park/Savuti and the Mababe depression. An area known for its great Leopards, Lion and the most endangered African wild dogs sightings as well as big numbers of other animals, birds and beautiful land scape.
Khwai River holds water for the whole year even on a very dry season, because of that Khwai area becomes a paradise for most of the animals and birds from most of the drier surrounding areas.
Khwai is a community based wildlife area which is managed by the community people and the Botswana Government. It is one of the few areas in Botswana where you can do the night Game drives and Bush walks because it is not in the National Park or Game reserve.
Khwai is between the best wildlife areas of the Moremi Game reserve, Chobe National Park and the Mababe community wildlife area. Because of that unique location Khwai becomes a favorite area for both wildlife activities and tourist.
There are different camping grounds in Khwai for the community and few private owned camping ground. African Bush Lovers Travel & Tours Safaris conduct their mobile safaris through this area and one of our favorite camping ground is called Magotho Camping sites in Khwai community area which is 100% owned by the community.
You also have a chance to do the optional Mokoro activity in Khwai to experience the local mode of transport in the Okavango Delta.
